Cockpit Build

my cockpit build!

I will be basing my cockpit build off of the following:

The plans for this cockpit build I have uploaded to my own space, they are from www.kolthar.com  a fellow simRacer.  Though I don’t know if he has joined us here at iRacing.  :)

The following is the pdf file of measurements, and more detailed information:

The following is the Daytona Prototype that will be released in the future at iRacing.  Note the cockpit layout.

My plan is to mimic the switch boards for my own personal cockpit build.  I will overlay a panel on my wheel (DFGT) to mask the motor housing, and continue over to the colored switch area you see in the image above.

I have begun to look for the required switches and the required lights.  Though I have limited experience in EE, I feel I can learn and build the required circuitry to provide a functioning panel.  Though currently iRacing does not support many additional settings, I feel I could purchase a simple gaming pad and wire into it, using a joy-to-key or mapping those joy keys to the settings in iRacing.

I have multiple switch sites book marked. I plan to add more about the specifics later.

For the labels, I’m unsure how I will go about this.  I don’t want to paint on the letters, and I think it would be a waste to purchase a label machine just for this.  So that is something I am looking into.

As for functionality, I plan to have both my steering wheel, seat and H-shifter all on adjustable slides.  I have plans to mimic Charlie V’s pod design by integrating the same slides he has for his pod. Shown below.

A link to Charlies’s pod can be here.

I think I will do a red themed seat, as I had found someone else’s cockpit displayed on RaceSimCentral’s forum.  My girl friend offered to get me the SPARCO shield, although I’m not sure if that is apart of the racing seat cover, or something separate.  Again, more that I need to look into.  ;)
