A New simRacing gameplay video posted

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Just a quick update that in the “Nerd Made Videos” Section, under “simRacing” a new video has been posted.

It is a game play video of the Daytona Prototype ( Riley MK XX).  It’s a fast little bugger.  This particular weekend when it was released, anyone was allowed to race it.  Currently I don’t have the license to do so, but I have been getting in it for a few test sessions here and there for fun.

My “Late Model” For iRacing

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

Oh, just to slowly populate the website, I’ve decided to give some information on the racing series that I partake in.  The “Late model” or Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, is the short oval series I enjoy racing.

ss-monty At left is my paint scheme  for the LM.  I’m not very good in them, as they take a lot of time to set up, and require very skillful maneuvers to pass someone of nearly equal pace.  I am however, getting better, and plan to make advancements in my abilities with it in 09.

My paint scheme is made to mimic Tony Stewart (he’s my favorite oval driver, and actually overall driver at the current moment).  Plus, who doesn’t like orange and black!?!?!  The number is arbitrary placed, it changes depending on who you are racing against at the time.  If the simulator thinks you should place first, it will stick a #01 on the side, and so forth.  It’s very strange racing in the Trucks where you can have nearly 40 cars in a race.

The following quote comes from iRacing’s website:

From a few feet away, the fiberglass body on a late model stock car looks, well, pretty much like a race-prepared stock-bodied American sedan. But underneath, instead of a folded-sheetmetal unibody, the Late Model Stock Car has a steel-tube frame and a full complement of racing hardware.

Monte Carlo SS Late Model Stock Cars are ubiquitous on America’s short paved ovals, and have launched the careers of many of NASCAR’s current Sprint Cup stars, including former champion Kurt Busch and his brother, Kyle. But until recently, there were almost as many sets of rules and technical specifications as there were tracks running Late Model classes. Now, with NASCAR strongly encouraging its member tracks to adopt a common set of economical rules, the specifications of all Late Models are beginning to converge into a truly national class.

The Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS runs a performance-restricted but highly reliable V8 engine, producing around 370 horsepower. But in a car that weighs just 2,900 pounds with the driver sitting behind the wheel, that’s enough for quite good performance. On a half-mile oval, the Monte Carlo SS can produce lap times competitive with a NASCAR Sprint Cup machine. The fiberglass bodies are good looking and in the case of on-track contact – which is common on short tracks – easy to repair.

iRacing

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

I’m really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things this coming year.  The tail end of 2008 was full of projects and work.  This year with Jackie around more, I think I can manage my time and resources better.  This will allow for more oppertunities to simRace.

On a second note, I passed up purchasing the projector and theater system from my dad’s town home.  I was going to use a projector for simRacing, but it seems to be wiser choice to spend that money elsewhere.
